Studio Policies
Entering the Studio: Please wait until right before the lesson time before entering the home. If the front door is open, students can enter quietly without knocking. Please take shoes off and leave them by the front door. The lesson studio is located through the first door on the left in the foyer. Please wait to enter the studio until the previous student has exited. The restroom is located in the hallway to the right of the kitchen.
Trial Lessons: Trial lessons are $30/half hour and consist of a 5-10 minute explanation of studio policies and a 20-25 minute trial lesson. Parents/Guardians should plan to be present for the first portion of the trial lesson. Materials will be available to borrow during this lesson, including instruments and lesson books. If you choose to sign up for a lesson reservation, you will be responsible for obtaining instruments and assigned materials.
Reserving a Lesson Time: Lessons are available in 30, 45, or 60 minute reservations. Each month includes three-to-five lessons with occasional weeks off. Off weeks will typically follow school holidays. Accepting a reservation in this studio means you agree to pay for all lessons during that month for the reservation time. The studio schedule will reset at the end of May for the summer and again in mid-August for the upcoming school year.
Materials: Students will be provided with a lesson binder to track assignments and practice each week. Students will be assigned practice materials such as lesson books or sheet music available for purchase online or at local music stores. Please have your student bring all books, lesson binder and materials to every lesson. A small tote or bag to keep everything in is recommended.
Practice: The best musicians are those who establish good practice skills early on. Learning how to manage practice time is essential for continuous progress and improvement. Practice skills are often foreign for new musicians and require an accountability partner. Practice with your student while they establish these habits. Goal oriented practice is suggested. Encourage your student to play each song 3 or more times each day. You can let them teach you! Allowing your musician to "teach" you as the student is a wonderful way to improve skill mastery.
Payment: Monthly invoices will be sent on the first of each month. Lesson tuition is due by the first scheduled lesson of the month. A late fee of $5 per week will be charged to your account beginning on the 15th of the month.
Parking: You are welcome to park on the left side of the driveway or at the corner of Joseph Bryan Way and Baylor Place. Please avoid parking on the right side of the driveway, in front of neighbors' homes, or in front mailboxes. Parents/Guardians are welcome to drop off students or to wait in the living room during lessons. Please be sure to pick students up on time.
Canceling or Missing a Lesson: Lesson cancelations must be made at least 48 hours in advance, or be due to illness, to qualify for a makeup lesson. Makeup lessons are subject to scheduling availability. Canceled lessons will not be credited towards future months. Tuition is non-refundable.
Discontinuing Lessons: Notice must be given at least one month in advance to forfeit a lesson reservation. For instance: If you wish to discontinue lessons at the end of January, you must notify Ms. Holmes by January 1st that you will be forfeiting your lesson reservation.
